The Social Innovation Index

The Social Innovation Index

Not one country has a serious strategy for social innovation remotely comparable to the strategies for innovation in business and technology. Despite the fact that for most people society is about there being others around to help when needed.. Our societies face increasingly complex problems: an ageing population, black holes in the public coffers and dwindling social mobility. How do we solve them? History shows us that even the deepest crises can be moments of opportunity bringing ideas from the margins into the mainstream.

The Social Innovation Index presents ten thought-provoking ideas (put forward by the general public). The entries, handpicked by a panel of esteemed social innovators.

The first publication received a wide range of entries ranging from wind turbines on the London underground to upcycling factories employing out of work design graduates. The ideas represent an interesting phenomenon: people recognising problems, thinking about solutions and taking responsibility for creating a better world.
